They can shine light on previously unknown and undocumented injustice, in countries where censorship is rife, governments are oppressive, or international media can't go. Usually, it's not the press, but locals, employees, friends and family that are first on the scene of a fire, in the midst of an earthquake or a riot. Journalism is bettered by the front-row content it can use to tell stories world-wide.
